Club Details for New Members

We meet (most) Saturday mornings at Christ Church in London Road (CM2 0AW).

The younger club (School years 1 to 5) meets from 9.15am to 10.45am.

The older club (School years 6+) from 10.45am to 12.15pm.

The groups are flexible to allow (for EG) siblings to stay together or stronger, younger players to challenge older ones. 

The cost is £5 per session attended, which is a mix of playing and coaching.

It was good to reopen Chelmsford Junior Chess Club on 16th November after the She Plays To Win tournament the previous week.

EJCA Autumn Tournament

It was great to see so many from CJCC playing in the Essex Junior Chess Association tournament in Chelmsford on Sunday. 

I made it 30 regular CJCC players plus quite a few occasional or former players.

Some made their tournament debut which was especially nice to see.

Upcoming Club Dates

Chelmsford Junior Chess Club Dates:

Ahead of Christmas, we are closed on Sat 9th Nov and Sat 7th Dec. We are open all the other Saturdays.

Our final date ahead of the Christmas break will be Sat 21st Dec. This will be our Christmas Celebration day complete with Christmas buffet.

After Christmas, we will reopen on Sat 11th January.

A great chess weekend

What a great weekend of chess that was. Saturday saw a full junior club.

On Sunday, I took some Brentwood School students up to London for the Global Chess League where we met Misha from CJCC and a couple of other Essex juniors.

Brentwood Rapid Play Sat 24th August

CJCC is closed on Saturday 24th August because of the 3rd Brentwood Bank Holiday Rapid Play.

This friendly, ECF-rated tournament is open to adults and juniors.

Older Members, Gigafinal and WhatsApp Group

 We are lucky at CJCC to have some of our older players willing to come along to help run the club.

Standing on the far right playing Digby is anothe Joshua (we had 4 Joshua's at the club today!). 

Joshua B was our top scorer at last weekend's Southern Gigafinal (700 players across 2 days) and qualified for the Terafinal Challengers with 5/7 in the U8s.

Good luck to Sushant in the Under 16 British Championships next week.

Essex Megafinal Sunday 19th May

We had a great turnout from CJCC at the Essex Megafinal in Colchester on Sunday 19th May.

Here are some of our trophy and medal winners (who have all qualified for the Gigafinal).

It was also great to see some of our players take part in their first tournament. We'll celebrate everyone's performance at the club on Saturday.

CJCC Online Train and Play Sessions

 

Chelmsford Junior Chess Club will be running online Train and Play sessions on (for now) the first Wednesday of each month from 6.30pm to 8pm.

The sessions will be run via Zoom and Lichess with coaching by screenshare followed by a tournament.

No prior commitment is necessary.
