Chess Tournaments and a British Champion

Congratulations to CJCC player Luoke - British Under 11 Rapid Play champion.

Chess tournaments are for players of all levels. They are fun days and you finish a better chess player than you start (although probably not as good as Luoke).

Sunday 28th August:

August Chess at CJCC and beyond

Right at the end of August, Brentwood School is hosting a one-day tournament for juniors and adults split into rating sections (enter the U1300 if you do not have a rating).

ChessFest and CJCC

ChessFest 2022 in Trafalgar Square was fabulous (if hot). 

Brilliant to see the whole of Trafalgar Square filled with giant and regular chess sets, living chess and a big screen to show all the action.

A few current and former CJCC players were there to enjoy it. Photos below of me losing in the sunshine courtesy of Huzaifa's and Grace's mums. 

Suitably Mediterranean weather for outdoor chess but back indoors this Saturday for CJCC.

A full week of chess

 It was a busy chess week.

Saturday 25th June AM - CJCC meeting as usual.

Saturday 25th June PM - Brentwood School fete with Giant Chess

Sunday 26th June AM - EJCA tournament at Moulsham School in Chelmsford

Sunday 26th June PM to Tuesday 28th June - Year 8 residential trip for Brentwood School to Suffolk (with much chess).

Thursday 30th June to Friday 1st July - Under 19 National School Finals in Stratford-Upon-Avon

It was great to see so many from CJCC playing at Moulsham. Joshua (5/6) and Maadesh (4.5/6) were our top scorers, coming 2nd and 3rd respectively in the U11s.

Chelmsford Chess Weekend

We have a nice weekend of chess coming up at the end of June.

Saturday 25th June - CJCC's latest club morning.

Sunday 26th June - EJCA junior chess tournament in Chelmsford. Details via EJCA

Online junior chess is continuing despite over the board events opening up. All details are on this rolling document.

CJCC won the Jubilee Team Battle ahead of Essex Juniors and Suffolk Juniors.

I can create student accounts at www.lichess.org for any junior player so they can have fun learning as well as playing online. All juniors can also represent Essex online if they wish.

August Chess Club

 August Chess Club

Chelmsford Junior Chess Club will meet on the following Thursday mornings from 9.15am to midday in Christ Church in London Road (CM2 0AW) for a mixture of playing and coaching.

Thursdays 4th August, 11th August, 18th August, 25th August

The younger club (Years 1 to 5) will meet from 9.15am to 10.30am. 

The older club (Year 6 and above) from 10.30 to midday.

The times are fluid as the groups merge into each other and the stronger, younger players are welcome to stay on.

Numbers are limited and sessions will need to be pre-booked at chelmsfordjuniorchess@gmail.com

The cost will be £5 per session, which will be a mix of playing and coaching.

Payment in cash on the day by preference or online marked CJCC.

Further details will be emailed out to those who book a session.
