Online Coaching Tuesday 2nd April

 I am running 3 online CJCC junior chess coaching sessions on Tuesday 2^nd April over Zoom.

 They will run for 90 minutes with tuition followed by a tournament or simultaneous match (when I play everyone at the same time). Places bookable by email.

 

We will use www.lichess.org as our platform. If anyone needs an account (or cannot remember their login), please let me know.

 

 9am – Players below about 800 on lichess.

11am – Players between about 800 and 1200 on lichess.

 2pm – Players 1200+ on lichess.

Brentwood Junior Tournament Photos

It was great to have so many CJCC players (and prize winners) among the field of 140 juniors at the 8th Brentwood Junior Tournament on 3rd March. 

To mark the 8th tournament, we had 8 rounds at 10+5 to mirror the 8x8 shape of the chessboard. 

It was a lovely day with the chess played in the right spirit of friendly competition.

This is just a reminder that we are closed on the following Saturdays in March and April.

The April dates are because I will be away with Brentwood School at the ECF National Junior Team Challenge Finals and ECF U19 National Girls Finals respectively.

Older Players at CJCC

Chelmsford Junior Chess Club splits into two halves based on age. 

Just as in the younger half, the older players range from experienced tournament competitors to those just starting off. 

Also just as with the younger half, we look at some chess together as a group. 

Today it was a prodigy vs legend match between GM Abhimanyu Mishra (14) and GM Vassily Ivanchuk (54).

CJCC closure dates in March and April

 

CJCC will be closed on the following Saturdays:

Saturday 2^nd March

Saturday 6^th April

Saturday 20^th April

 

CJCC is open on all the other Saturdays through February, March and April.

CJCC in 2024

We had our first meeting of 2024 today (20th January) and meet - with the odd exception - every Saturday morning.

Here are a few photos from the first (younger) half of the club. The older players in shot are doing their Duke of Edinburgh volunteering or earning a bit of money helping out.

Chelmsford Junior Chess Club meets on Saturdays from 9.15am to 12.15pm in Christ Church in London Road (CM2 0AW).

We meet (with the odd exception) every week.

The younger club (school years 1 to 5) meet from 9.15am to 10.45am. 

The older club (school year 6 and above) from 10.45am to 12.15pm.

There is some flexibility within the group ages.

The cost is £5 per session attended, which will be a mix of playing and coaching.
