No CJCC on Saturday 17th October but a busy weekend of chess nonetheless.
It was the first Essex Junior Chess Association tournament of the school year in Chelmsford. Over 100 children took part, split into 5 section based on age and chess rating.
There was of course plenty of CJCC interest (40 of our current players took part).
At one end, CJCC coaches George and Anushka were in the Under 18 Open while at the other 5 players were in the Under 8s including Ethan and Deshauna making their tournament debuts.
There were some great performances and results. Pride of place go to CJCC players and St Cedd's students Ani (U8) and William (U10). Both won their sections with a perfect score of 6 wins from 6 games.
We will celebrate everyone's performance at the club on Saturday.
My favourite part was seeing so many players just having fun together outside in the playground and on the Astro in between the games. It is what makes these days special.
Well done to Joshua Buka as well who scored 6/11 in the two-day Terafinal at Blenheim Palace across the weekend.
Ahead of all this, Brentwood School hosted an U19 English Chess Federation competition on 15th October.
It was brilliant to see so many current and former CJCC players representing KEGS and Brentwood.
Best Wishes
Robin Slade (Head of Chess at Brentwood School)
